Ben took off this week so we could do a little staycation. It was so nice to be together as a family and just get to do things we can’t normally do since I work on the weekends. It’s been so good for us. I felt a little under the weather, so there were two days we did absolutely nothing (except for taking a walk and going out to get food!). But I guess that’s just what we needed! We needed a week-long weekend together!

One day, we went to check out Common Place Books in Midtown, Oklahoma City. It was the cutest bookstore I’ve ever been in and it made me want to stay and read more books! I don’t make time to read books and that’s something I want to change. I see Ben reading like 40 books a year and I’m over here like, “I’ll watch RHONY or RHOBH”… (guilty pleasure). It was absolutely dreamy and I loved everything about it. Their interior design was on point and their children’s section was so Parisian & cute, I couldn’t handle it! The owner (also named Ben!) brings his dog Boz to work everyday, and I just love that there’s a shop dog there to give you your daily dose of dog therapy! He’s like an adorable big polar bear. I was snapping pics and trying to keep an eye on my overtired toddler, so I didn’t have a chance to check out the other sections, but Ben said they had a great selection and found a Andy Warhol book he bought. We got a book for Charley called ‘The Color Monster’ and he loves it. I love it, too. He’s a sweet, kind-hearted boy but he has some pretty big feelings and I think books like these are so important for little ones as they’re learning to feel and identify their emotions and learn how to handle them. Plus, it helps that it’s an elaborate pop up book! šŸ˜‰

We took Charley to try his first ice cream today and it was so hilarious. I wouldn’t call it a fail, but he definitely didn’t like it! Not sure if it’s because it was cold or if it was the flavor. He did have a blast with the bar stools and had fun spinning them around and around (he’s definitely an almost two year old BOY! haha). I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but Charley is very social. He loves other kids and he lit up when he saw an older boy come into the ice cream shop. Oh and when we were at Common Place Books he saw another boy about his age and went up and gave him a hug!! (Gah! ALL THE FEELS!) Even though Charley didn’t enjoy his {vegan} ice cream, mommy and daddy sure did šŸ˜‰ Charley has special dietary needs, as I explained in this post. Thankfully I don’t have to be AS strict in what he does/doesn’t eat as I used to, but we also had a scary reminder this week that he cannot have milk. I’m just grateful he’s ok and other than these sensitivities/allergies, he’s a very healthy boy.

We’ve also been focusing on fitness this week. Trying to make it more of a priority! Even when I didn’t feel so great, we took a family walk every day and it was so good! I’ve been doing some simple floor exercises to help with my diastasis recti, which I spoke about here, and even though they are very simple, I notice I feel stronger and more grounded. I know if I keep at it I will see results. It’s very difficult to find info on and especially resources that are free (everyone wants your money!!), however, I do know that Kelly Packer just published a YouTube video about what she did to help heal her diastasis recti! I’ll link it here for you guys. It’s much more common than we realize and a lot of women get it as a result of pregnancy (increased intra-abdominal pressure leads to ab separation to varying degrees). I didn’t realize I had it until Charley was like one and a half. That isn’t that uncommon, apparently! Many moms find out they have it later. Thankfully, there IS something we can do about it!

I’ve been trying to keep up with what’s been restocked in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I decided that since it ends on August 6th (in just a couple days!), I’d publish a blog post with some of my favorites that are either fully in-stock or mostly in-stock. I’m still learning my way around making collages (I apparently have *the* most difficult Photoshop edition ever!…can’t find any tutorials, they’re all for Photoshop Elements!), so I’ll just include a widget for you to shop below!
