On Turning 19 Months + Making Memories in Our Favorite Moccasins

Tomorrow my ‘baby’ turns 19 months. 19 MONTHS YOU GUYS! I’m feeling all the feels today. I never judged other moms for talking about how crazy it was when their little ones were all of a sudden one month older. I always thought it was sweet and I figured I would feel the same way one day. Maybe I thought the feeling would lessen as he got older, but I guess it never goes away!

One of my favorite quotes since becoming a mom has been, ‘the days are long, but the years are short.’

That pretty much sums up motherhood! ūüėČ

Seeing the way time passes so quickly makes me want to be more mindful of my time with Charley. He is so attentive and aware¬†of his environment – I’m trying to be intentional in what I say, how I say things, and what I do around him. This week I’ve been struck with how the seemingly mundane activities from day to day are actually the most precious time we have together. If I think back and try to remember what I loved most about my own mom, I remember being at home a lot, reading, and just having her there. She was present. She sang songs with me and told¬†me how much God loved me. I remember playing outside, climbing our apple tree, finding treasures (like rocks, twigs & feathers) and showing them to her. She shared in my excitement about the littlest things. And that’s all I wanted and all I needed! HER.

It helps me to think back on things I appreciate about my mom and my childhood because it always puts things into perspective. I’ve been thinking about contentment a lot lately, and I’ve been struggling with dreaming & planning while still remaining content with the way things are right now. It’s a fine balance. I’d love to get new drapes, get rid of our hideous red front door, paint the house, etc etc, but then I realize that Charley doesn’t care that our drapes are brown, the front door an awkward shade of red, or that we have beige walls with silver trim (totally judging whoever made that ridiculous¬†interior design choice!! lol). He doesn’t care about any of that. He just wants ME. He loves his books, he loves to play with tupperware, wooden spoons & measuring cups, and he likes that I’m there with him. This isn’t a revolutionary thought that I’m sharing with you, but it was a moment where I felt totally convicted & all of a sudden, I saw life through a clearer, different perspective. I was so thankful for this reminder. I don’t want to get distracted from what really matters.

Even though it’s just icing on the cake, I’ve always enjoyed finding stylish clothes for Charley. It’s just something I really enjoy and it’s been so fun to find cute boy clothes, shoes and accessories. I see it as somewhat of a challenge, since I feel like I see SO many cute girl clothes and accessories seemingly everywhere! From the time Charley was a newborn, I’ve always dressed him in Freshly Picked moccasins. I remember seeing their amazing Black Friday sale and snatching up 2 pairs for Charley! One to fit him then and one for him to grow into. Not only are they absolutely¬†adorable,¬†but they are so functional. We were given a few other pairs of shoes but I almost always grabbed our FP moccasins because they seemed so comfortable, they were easy to get on (and they stayed on his feet!), and they always just made the outfit! They became a no brainer whenever we were going out and I’m so glad we got them. Charley’s currently in his fourth pair and we just got his fifth for when he hits that next growth spurt! ūüėČ

Freshly Picked’s slogan, “From the first step, to the next step, Freshly Picked will be there for every step” couldn’t be more true for us and our family. They’ve been there from the beginning and I’ll never part with any of his moccasins – they hold too many precious memories!

As Charley grows, I will continue to dress him in all the stylish clothes and shoes I can find! No, life isn’t about what we own, but when we keep that in mind, it frees us up to enjoy those extras in a healthy way. I can’t wait to create more memories with Charley in his Freshly Picked moccasins. I see many visits to the zoo, the playground, and the train track behind our favorite coffee shop in our future!
